Biography:
There is a great deal of mystery surrounding Sigrid, even regarding her mere existence.
If she was indeed a real person, it is unknown when she was born, though it was likely in the Kingdom of Sweden. Her father may have been Skolgar Toste, a Swedish chieftain. Nothing else is known about her origins, nor her early life, except that at some point, she may have married King Eric of Sweden, and that she may have been the mother of one or two of his children.
Sigrid then may have gone on to marry King Sweyn of Denmark and Norway, but this is also not known for certain. Once again, she may have had one or two children with him.
In December of 1013, Sweyn went on to conquer the Kingdom of England and became king, making Sigrid the Queen Consort of the English. However, this would only last for five weeks, as Sweyn would die from injuries sustained in a horse riding accident. What happened to Sigrid after this is not known.
The cause and date of her death is also not known.
Rule:
Unknown.
Trivia:
- She may have been a fictional character created by Scandinavian saga writers.
- It's possible that Sigrid may be a case of mistaken identity, and may have in fact been Princess Świętosława. However, some still argue that they were separate people.
